ABOUT

About LightHouse Jiu-Jitsu

Lighthouse Jiu-Jitsu was founded by two coaches who share a vision of creating a training environment rooted in safety, positivity, and competition. After years of coaching and mentoring students, we recognized the need for a space where people of all ages could train with confidence, feel supported, and grow both on and off the mat.

Before opening Lighthouse, we helped build one of Michigan’s largest and most successful youth competition teams, guiding athletes from their first class to major tournaments across the country. That experience shaped our belief that great coaching goes beyond winning medals it builds discipline, resilience, and lifelong confidence.

Lighthouse was created to provide clear structure, strong mentor
ship, and a welcoming community where beginners feel comfortable and competitors are challenged to reach their highest potential. Our goal is to develop not only skilled athletes, but confident individuals and a team culture built on respect, accountability, and growth.

FArris Abuwandi

CO-OWNER

Farris began training in Jiu-Jitsu at just four years old and has had the privilege of training and competing ever since. He started coaching at 15, quickly developing a passion for teaching after witnessing the positive impact it had on the students he worked with.

Throughout his life, Farris has been involved in competitive sports, most notably Jiu-Jitsu and soccer, where he learned that a great coach can be hard to find and one who truly makes an impact can ignite a lasting passion. His goal has always been to inspire others to continue in the sport and to pass on the knowledge, discipline, and lessons he has gained through years of training and competition to the next generation of athletes.
